The kind of goof that would get a guy like me fired. Even my supervisor thought I goofed and he lost his chill, which I’d never seen.

As it turns out, I didn’t goof. Praise be!

That’s a Mini?

It looks like an Aston Martin’s petulant teenage son.

My day. 6th Graders. Not pretty. (Actually, it wasn’t so bad, but I got mad, and I hate it when that happens.)

Glad things worked out for you.

6th graders? Yeah, good luck with that. Are you a teacher?

I am. 15 years, though 6th grade and an elementary school are new for me.

But isn’t it, except with a German nanny playing its mom?

What’d you do that you didn’t do?

I was supposed to meet with a builder today to go over revised plans. He canceled. HE canceled yesterday. he canceled last Friday. He canceled last Wednesday. He canceled for the last two fucking months. He asked me to get my ass out f bed early to meet at 6:30 in the ass crack of the sunrise. If hes not there i’m going to tell the homeowner he should consider finding a new builder. This thing was supposed to be under construction.

Lose sensitive proprietary documents. Turns out that the person looking for them was just bad at looking for things and they were where they should have been the whole time. Had that stuff gotten lost, it would have been lawsuits and stuff like that, so it was such a relief. I ended up going to our company’s headquarters (I work from home) to look for the documents myself and I found them.

All respect to you man, those are some of the toughest kids - some springing through puberty with emotions high and some not, a huge mix of maturity levels... keep your chin up! My wife and many of my friends teach, most under appreciated profession out there.

Thank you. I have mixed feelings about it. I have a cousin a few years younger than I am who is a chemical engineer for Dupont Chemical. Guy works is butt off and he is very successful. I mix it up with these kids all day and it’s emotionally very challenging. But I only work 9 months out of the year. When folks say that others have “real jobs,” at some level, they’re correct. And the union owns my profession, so at another level, I’m just a union robot. I want to be excellent, but I get paid the same as the next teacher. I’m a math teacher, but I’m paid exactly the same as the art teacher, not that art isn’t important, but my kids take standardized tests and the results are mailed to my kids’ homes and the art teacher’s are not. Nor the social studies teacher. But I love the children and that keeps me going back. Boys need men.

In fact, when you made your inital post, I thought of my cousin at Dupont. They have these certain padlocks they use to lock out certain processes at certain times, like when technicians are working on the line. They put padlocks on the controls so nobody can start up a machine and get someone killed. My cousin told me about a senior technician who had made some kind of major safety goof that could potentially be deadly — nobody even came close to getting hurt because his goof was all procedural — but he had to self report and damn near lost his job.

Better today. Go home, tell Wifey all about it, good night sleep, gym this morning, then back into the maw. I love the kids; that’s what keeps me going.

In education, every day is a good day, and some days are better days.

And some days are so good that tomorrow can only be better .

Yesterday was so good and today is better.

You’re in Europe, aren’t you?
